Junior Rugby

Woodville Wasps Junior Rugby Club has been named the fastest growing Junior Rugby Union Club in South Australia. With award winning facilities and a head Junior Coach who was presented the 2015 South Australian Rugby Union Volunteer of the Year award there are a lot of great things going on at this family focused, all-inclusive club. Over the past six years the club has gone from no Junior sides to teams at each of the Under-7s, Under-8s, Under-10s, Under-12s and an Under-14s side in the 2018 season. In our seventh year, we are further growing to take an Under-16s side into the premiership competition, and continue our journey to develop a full age range of Juniors, right through to Under-18s in 2020.

The focus within the club is on a family friendly environment with an on-field emphasis on a balance of teamwork, discipline & everyone getting a fair go. Roy Utting (Head Junior Coach) says, “There are no superstars at this age, we’re all about being part of the Woodville team & growing together. I’m very proud to say that the feedback, player retention and results suggest we’re getting it right.”

The training for children in Rugby Union is progressive, it’s not straight into full contact Rugby, they start with very basic ball skills and go from there, we have boys & girls of all skill levels and coaching is tailored to develop these at a rate that suits the individuals.

The Rugby Union season runs from April – September, with training times age dependent.

For 4-9 year olds, training is Thursday 5.30pm – 6.30pm.

Ages 10 – 17 year olds, train Tuesday & Thursday 6pm – 7.30pm

For those players who don’t have a summer sport, we offer off season training on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month with a couple of sessions run at the beach. These are a hit as it also allows the kids the ability to try water rugby as there is always a game of touch rugby in the shallows to finish the session.

Preseason training starts for our Under 12s, u14s, u16s & u18s on January 7th, 2020.  For the younger grades, preseason training starts early February each year, with our Annual Summer Academy.  Held over 5 weeks, this is a great opportunity for new players to come along to learn the basics in sessions. It is a great chance for young players to come and meet some of our currently playing group, meet other new people, and hopefully make a friend or two.

The 2020 Get into Rugby Summer Academy kicks off on Thursday February 13 to allow children to come along & be introduced to Rugby Union, our fantastic coaches, and family friendly club members with registrations to be done on week 1.

Registrations for the Get Into Rugby program, and the yearly registrations are all online via Rugby Xplorer App. (via Google Play or iTunes or via PC link:  Rugby Union Australia Registration )

Woodville Rugby Union Club is SportsVoucher approved, and will be able to assist with sportsvoucher rebates to the value of $100 – primary school children only.
